Judith

Judith makes you feel Oedipal,
you want her to be your lover
and your mother

She’s bathed in some shade
of dark fire
a muted brightness
shooting from inside

She gives the ungrateful world
the privilege of her presence,

she knocks the crude edges
off the rough,
just as she embraces it

she sees things
you don’t want her to,
but she’s a jury
always in deliberation

She sees things
as they should be,
not rudimentary,
but free
